Somes Pond in Mount Desert, ME is the earliest pond to swim in. The reward for a chilly swim is to lie on the warmth of the large granite rock in its center. Some days I swim out past the rock to a little camp on an island. Other days are for lollygagging, feeling the warmth of the sun, looking at the shapes in the clouds, and a little nap.
